Croydon’s first plant-based Caribbean café has opened, thanks to Kareema and Kaleem Shakur-Muhammad. The vegan twin sisters are professional chefs and for the past several months, the sisters have been serving about 150 residents at the Surrey Street Market every week. The positive response from the Croydon residents has inspired the sisters to expand.
These two professionally-trained chefs, boast impressive culinary skills with experience in some of London’s top restaurants. Kareema called upon her top-notch training when she decided to transition to a plant-based diet due to health concerns. Her sister soon joined her on the plant-based journey.
As the sisters embark on their plant-based expansion, they readily remind people that plant-based eating is for everyone. They can be quoted as saying on Instagram, “Ethical plant-based living is in our DNA,”
Opening a new café in the Croydon area will provide locals with job security, as they spread their message to learn to do better for yourself, the animals, and the planet.
