This is the first permanent vegan pastry menu item the chain has offered. As always, restaurants are under constant pressure to stay on top of the latest food trends and to offer hot ticket items that will get customers in to the stores. Starbucks is no different. In an effort to appeal to more people, Starbucks is capitalizing on the popularity of vegan diets. ![]() While the Macadamia Oat Cookie is the highlight of the chain’s new offerings, it isn’t the coffee shop’s only new item aimed at vegan consumers. Over the past year, they have introduced items like oat milk, coconut milk, and a protein bowl. Most stores offer some pre-packaged vegan snack foods. Many of Starbucks recent seasonal drinks have also been advertised as vegan options, such as the iced Cinnamon Almond milk Macchiato. Starbucks was the first major chain to offer non-dairy drink options, setting the bar for similar style coffee shops around the country. Now, it appears they’ll be the first to do the same with vegan food options. The chain has been planning to expand their food options with an emphasis on offering more plant-based choices in response to customer demands. They plan to increase the amount of vegan lunch options available over the course of the next year. The increase in pressure to offer plant-based food options is also partially due to movements from animal-rights organizations like Compassion Over Killing and PETA. Starbucks is jumping on the opportunity to appeal to vegan consumers and staying ahead of the competition with these new menu items. The release of the new Macadamia oat cookie shows that Starbucks is committed to delivering products that customers want.
